Sun Spot Removal

Many people develop brownish colored lesions on their skin from extensive sun exposure, aging, and other causes. These lesions are commonly known as sun spots or age spots, and freckles. These areas of the skin contain high levels of melanin, and are typically caused by an excess of pigment.  These can vary in size, shape, and depth; some being no bigger than a pinhead, while others can be as large as a hand.  The Laser effectively breaks up the melanin pigment and it’s reabsorbed into the body.

How Many Treatments are Needed?

Your treatment plan will depend on many factors such as the location, depth, size and type of pigmentation. Some lesions will require several treatments for optimal results, where some can be resolved in a single treatment. Pigmented lesion treatment provides the most benefit to those with superficial, benign, pigmented lesions. To achieve optimal benefit, 1 to 2 treatments may be necessary about 3 weeks apart.

  • Blistering during treatment may be an indication of sun exposure. Blistering can occur during the first three days following the laser treatment. Blistered areas should be kept moist with an ointment until healed.

Steps Prior to Your First Appointment

  • Avoid UV exposure 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • Clients who are sunburned or tanned must wait 2 weeks before being treated to avoid additional
skin damage.
  • Avoid sunless tanning products 7 days prior to your treatment.
  • All products must be completely removed from skin prior to treatment.
  • Clients should come to appointments with clean skin in the area to be treated.
  • Avoid chemical peels and other laser procedures in the area to be treated for 2 weeks prior and
two weeks after your laser treatment.
  • Avoid all alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone,

  • Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity. We recommend that you check with your personal
physician prior to receiving laser treatments if you are taking a long-term antibiotic. If you become ill and begin taking an antibiotic, you will need to be off the medication for 7 days before laser treatment.

After Sun Spot Removal Care Instructions

  • Avoid extended UV exposure for 2 weeks post-treatment
